Overview
I-PASS Training is an online module that provides an overview of the structured, evidence-based framework to standardize handoffs, reduce communication failures, and enhance patient safety. The module introduces and reinforces all components of the I-PASS framework (Illness severity, Patient summary, Action list, Situation awareness, Synthesis by receiver) through an interactive training that not only introduces the core I-PASS concepts but also applying the concepts in a virtual simulation experience that will require both written and verbal handoffs. There are three sections to this module: introduction, handoff, and synthesis. This educational initiative supports the organizations' high reliability journey and fosters a stronger culture of safety.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Participants will accurately identify all components of the IPASS framework (Illness severity, Patient summary, Action list, Situation awareness, Synthesis by receiver). Measured through completion of online module, posttest knowledge assessment
  2. Participants will demonstrate correct use of IPASS during virtual simulation scenarios. Observation: Selfassessment knowledge assessment and intermittent audit.
  3. : Participants will identify improvement in safety overtime, through completion of Harms to Patient Survey, which will be completed immediately posttraining completion, and monthly (for 12 months). At least 80% of respondents will report their perceived improvement in patient safety over time.

Accreditation

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is accredited by The Kentucky Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
